Dallas: AHF Opens New Healthcare Center

AHF adds new healthcare center to Dallas Oak Lawn site which currently includes an Out of the Closet Thrift Store and AHF Wellness Center.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the world’s largest global HIV/ AIDS organization, is proud to be expanding services in the city of Dallas, TX. AHF will now provide members of the community with the opportunity to receive primary care in the Oak Lawn district, the center of much of the city’s LGBTQ+ life and culture, while also being able to still receive free HIV and STD prevention services. The new clinic will also allow patients improved access to their providers by experiencing AHF’s new open floor plan clinic model with Dr. Nabeel Chaudhary serving as the onsite medical provider.

“AHF is proud to be expanding its services for the people of the Dallas community. Access to affordable healthcare means ensuring our services are readily available to those that are need. This new healthcare center will do just that. It will provide individuals the convenience of receiving specialized care, while also having the option to utilize additional services at our AHF Wellness Center or Out of the Closet Thrift Store. Quality healthcare should always be a right, not a privilege,” said Anthony Snipes, AHF Regional Director, TX.

According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), in 2017 Texas was ranked the 3rd among all 50 states for most cases of new HIV infections. More specifically, Dallas County had an estimated 18,073 people who were living with HIV which was a 44% increase since 2008. From 2013 – 2016, 27% of all newly diagnosed individuals in the county progressed to a concurrent AIDS diagnosis within 12 months of their initial HIV diagnosis. Additionally, 63% of new HIV diagnoses were in persons less than 35 years of age. New rates of infection of HIV continue to remain highest among African Americans.

AHF first began providing services in the city of Dallas in 2014 with the opening of its first Out of the Closet Thrift Store in Texas. With the addition of the Oak Lawn HCC, it now will have three AHF Healthcare Centers in Dallas (Oak Lawn, Forest Lane by Green Oak Hospital and Market Center); two AHF Wellness Centers (Oak Lawn & Forest Lane) and three AHF Pharmacy locations (Oak Lawn, Forest Lane and Market Center). 96 cents of every dollar spent by patrons went back into patient services.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, currently provides medical care and/or services to over 1.7 million people in 45 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Asia/Pacific Region and Eastern Europe.
