The Living Skills in the Schools Program (under the CRC Recovery Foundation Inc.) today announced a new partnership with AE Industrial Partners to provide school-based substance abuse prevention programming in Palm Beach and Broward Counties.

AE Industrial Partners will provide financial support to the Living Skills in the Schools Program to help further their mission of building resistance to substance abuse through age-appropriate education, reassurance, understanding, peer support, and access to help. In addition to financial aid, AE Industrial Partners will provide in-kind support, including information technology, participation in marketing and promotional activities, and event planning.

Survey results reveal the pervasive ongoing trend of substance use in Florida high schools. According to the 2022 Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey, 12% of high school students in Palm Beach County report having consumed alcohol in the last 30 days compared to 15.5% statewide. Results demonstrated similar trends for cannabis use in Palm Beach County, with 11.8% reporting using cannabis in the last 30 days, compared to 12.2% statewide. Broward County students reported comparable statistics to Palm Beach County, with 10.5% of high school students reporting alcohol consumption in the last 30 days and 5.9% reporting using marijuana in the past 30 days. Moreover, previous surveys revealed that between 10-15% of students had used cannabis in the last 30 days in Broward County, indicating that the 2022 findings may even be understated. The survey underscores that adolescent substance use remains a major issue in Florida schools and a substantial risk factor for high school students. [1]
