Alder Pest Control Cautions Northwest Arkansas Homeowners About Bugs This Season

Lowell, AR – Ants, cockroaches, ticks, centipedes, termites, mosquitoes, and mice are common nuisances throughout the Lowell, Rogers, Bella Vista, and Bentonville areas. These pests can cause diseases, ruin a person’s home and property, and leave things dirty and infested. Alder Pest Control explains, however, that there are ways that concerned homeowners can reduce or eliminate these irksome insects and rowdy rodents.

For ants, Alder Pest Control recommends keeping a clean kitchen. Any leftover food, unrinsed dishes, and crumbs should be cleaned up immediately after each meal. People who leave sweetened beverages out in the open should consider using a tumbler with an airtight seal. Cereal, cookies, and other snack foods should also be kept in a container as ants have a sense of smell up to five times greater than humans.

Cockroaches are a major concern for pest control professionals. During the warm summer months, adult cockroaches, which can grow up to the width of the palm of an adult hand, seek shelter indoors and will eat anything in sight. Cockroaches are especially a concern as they carry pathogens that can be harmful to human health.

Ticks are another serious problem, and more than a dozen varieties are lurking in lawns throughout Northwest Arkansas. Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and bite infections are just a few of the potential problems associated with ticks. Alder Pest Control explains that mowing and reducing areas of tall grass can help cut back on the number of tick bites children receive when playing in the yard throughout the summer.

Cracks and crevices are an open invitation for many other creepy crawlies, such as the alarming anthropoid the house centipede. While centipedes can help keep a home clear of cockroaches and spiders, they can bite humans, especially children who play on the ground where six-centimeter-long colorful bugs roam.

Termites are also a significant concern to those living in the area. A termite inspection (this is not typically included in a quarterly pest control package) may reveal wood damage caused by these hungry and harmful homewreckers. According to Alder Pest Control, leftover firewood must be moved more than five feet away from a home’s foundation to keep termites away. People who notice damage or see a termite swarm should contact their pest control service for termite control services immediately.

Mosquitoes need no introduction but will gladly introduce themselves around standing water, especially in shaded areas. Alder Pest Control asserts that homeowners should empty small swimming pools, buckets of water, and overturned toys that have collected rain throughout the summer months. They also suggest planting rosemary and lavender to repel mosquitoes.

Finally, Alder Pest Control recommends that Northwest Arkansas residents check their homes for indications of mice and contact a pest control services provider if feces, evidence of chewing, or frayed wires are present.

Bugs don’t have to ruin a family's summer. Alder Pest Control says a few simple steps, such as keeping food out of the kitchen and removing stagnant water, can help homeowners stay safe and bug-free throughout the summer season.

Alder Pest Control offers termite control services, quarterly pest control, and a host of other services to homeowners throughout the Northwest Arkansas area.
