According to data released by the Sport and Fitness Industry Association, lacrosse has experienced a surge in popularity, with participation rates increasing by 218% in recent years. For girls specifically, the NCAA also noted an increase of 97% in participation rates at the collegiate level, highlighting the growth in professional-level opportunities for female lacrosse players.
The new lacrosse coaching services from Long Island Sports Training cater to girls aged seven years or older and can accommodate diverse skill levels, from children learning the basics to skilled teens aspiring to pursue a professional lacrosse career. Private training sessions are available for girls seeking personalized instruction alongside group and team sessions. For team training, a minimum of eight players is required while group sessions require between four and eight players.
Stick work is one of the most important skills taught during the sessions as it enhances a player’s ability to control, pass, and shoot the ball with precision. During stick work sessions, girls will focus on cradling and numerous forms of passing including short, long, and cross-field passes to develop their accuracy and proficiency in strategic ball play.
Players will also learn to improve their shooting precision, working on shoot angles, behind-the-back, underhand, and jump shots, helping them to score from multiple positions on the field. Dodging skills such as the alley, low attack, and setting up the defender are also taught during the sessions, helping to improve consistency in defense.

Long Island Sports Training’s lacrosse training sessions are taught by Mr. and Mrs. Coach Gilmore, a husband-and-wife duo with many years of experience in coaching children and teenagers. Both Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore hold numerous coaching certifications and have received awards including the League Coach of the Year and the SCGSCA County Coach of the Year awards.
They have also added Kayla Gilmore and Joanie Deignan to their lacrosse training staff to work specifically with girls in Suffolk County NY to improve their game. They both have a wealth of knowledge, skill and training experience.
