According to the Federal Reserve's May 2025 Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households report (covering 2024 data), 37% of adults said they could not fully cover a $400 emergency bill with cash, and only 55% reported having sufficient rainy-day funds to handle three months of expenses. "Resilience and preparedness matter just as much as growth," Pellegrino explains. "Families cannot rely solely on net worth numbers—they need liquidity and adaptability to withstand health shocks, job changes, and market downturns."
