-- A precise vegan amino acid blend was shown to be effective in improving skin hydration and texture more effectively than whole collagen molecules. The new study, published in Nature’s npj aging and led by Prof. Collin Ewald at ETH Zurich, shows the results of a four-year translational journey, from mice to human clinical trials, identifying that a precise 3:1:1 ratio of the amino acids Glycine, Proline, and Hydroxyproline increases collagen synthesis in the most effective way.
The Swiss supplement brand AVEA worked with the researchers to develop a consumer- ready product to bring this new approach to the market. The AVEA Collagen Activator contains the exact ingredients used in the study and is now available globally. It has immediately become a successful product in various markets such as Switzerland, Germany, Italy and China.

AVEA Researchers in the lab
The results of the final human trial (N=66) at Hautwerk Clinic in Zurich were significant. Study participants were analysed with a VISIA skin scanner and a Corneometer monthly. Within 3 months study participants improved their skin quality:
- Skin hydration improved by an impressive 34% on average
- Skin texture improved by 8.5% leading to significant improvement in skin elasticity
As collagen is a large consumer market with lots of conflicting claims, the peer-reviewed study is a great addition to the research pool in the field and a serious argument that there are indeed ways to improve the skin through supplementation.
This is one of the few instances where a supplement compound has been successfully translated from basic research to a consumer-ready product with validated human clinical data in a short timeframe.
AVEA is a Swiss company focused on the development of science-backed dietary supplements that target key hallmarks of aging, including energy and NAD+ metabolism, collagen production and skin health, joint mobility, gut health, blood sugar balance and sleep. The company invests in clinical research, university collaborations and third-party testing, translating cutting-edge longevity science into accessible, easy-to-understand products. Besides the study on collagen currently various studies on supplements for sleep and daily energy are in the works.
