Sierra Service Project Celebrates 50 Years of Community Service!

By: PRLog
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Oct. 23, 2025 - PRLog -- The Sierra Service Project (SSP) is celebrating its 50-year anniversary from October 24th through 26th with events in Sacramento that encapsulate its history of community service and building connections. Over 230 community leaders, volunteers, donors, and staff will gather to commemorate this milestone celebration of the Sacramento-based non-profit organization, which is dedicated to building faith and strengthening communities through service to others.

Since 1975, SSP has built strong connections and resilience among communities by equipping volunteers in home repair skills and community-based projects. Programs include:
  • Sacramento Sustainability Academy, a workforce development program providing young people an introduction to climate action, vocational skills, and community resilience work.
  • Rancho Cordova volunteer Days of Service, focusing on home accessibility projects for residents.
  • North Sacramento Free Tool Library and free workshops
  • Summer Weeks of Service to complete necessary home repairs and community projects for underserved residents, while developing both hands-on and socio-emotional skills in young people. This program promotes thriving, collaborative communities and support individuals safely aging in place.
The Sierra Service Project is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which was inspired by and modeled after Appalachia Service Project and was originally founded by several United Methodist Church ministers. For much of SSP's history, home repair projects have been in partnership with Indigenous tribes throughout the Western United States. SSP has worked with over forty Indigenous communities and non-native rural and urban communities.
