ÁIGI to Launch Kickstarter Campaign for New Watch in September

By: Get News
Premium watch brand ÁIGI has set plans in place to unveil a Kickstarter campaign for wristwatches that incorporates steel from one of KSAT’s satellite ground stations in Antarctica.

KSAT is currently one of the world’s leading providers of communication for satellite services. For close to twenty years, the Norwegian-based company has collected images from satellites under extreme conditions. These images have, in turn, been used in everything from helping to save refugees to collecting important data that monitor the environment. Now, the watch brand AIGI of Norway is paying a tribute to the tremendous work that KSAT has done and is still doing.

Toward that end, ÁIGI is making a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of a watch that is inspired by KSAT’s vast network of satellite ground stations around the globe. The automatic watches are expected to contain an actual piece of steel taken from KSAT’s Troll Ground Station located close to the South Pole in Antarctica.

With the help of KSAT, ÁIGI will be able to implement steel from one of the first antennas built in Antarctica into these watches. This antenna is still fully functional and is currently gathering images from outer space. To incorporate it into the watch, the Norwegian watchmaker will melt the steel gotten from the Antarctica Ground Station and used it to make the crown of these wristwatches, which has the shape of a Satellite Ground Station. So when one wears one of these Ground Satellite Station wristwatches, they are also wearing a piece of metal with a ton of helpful history behind it.

The Dial

The inspiration for the dial and crown comes from the radomes surrounding the satellite ground antennas. For those who might not know, a radome is the structural, weatherproof enclosure that protects the antenna and gives them its unique look. It is an essential part of the antenna making sure it works in rough climates and all kinds of weather.

The Second’s Hand

For the second’s hand ÁIGI has added a BGW9-lumed satellite to visualize the satellites orbiting the earth and the ground stations. Since this watch has an automatic movement, it will sweep with a smooth movement “in orbit” around the radome dial.

The benefits of this campaign to customers

Customers who back their campaign will save between 20% to 53% off the future retail price. The watches will be limited edition and limited to the amount sold in this campaign.

The campaign will start in September on Kickstarter and interested persons are encouraged to sign up for their newsletter here to know when the campaign goes live.
