Dollar edges up ahead of jobless claims

The dollar consolidates as investors await weekly U.S. jobless-claims data. The euro softens after the purchasing managers index for the euro zone unexpectedly slumps to a seven-month low. GDP data out of New Zealand and Ireland also figure into foreign-exchange trading.
