Bank of America Selects Life Safety Engineering (LSE) for the Financial Institution’s Billion-Dollar Tower in Charlotte, North Carolina

With an increasing emphasis on the stability and safety of new construction in the U.S. and worldwide, Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) is taking a leadership role to ensure that “life safety” is the top priority for the construction, financing and the volume of visitors to their buildings.

John Cassisi, SVP of Corporate Workplace for Bank of America states, "We cannot and will not ignore the possibility of unforeseen events. There have been too many instances worldwide, whether by natural circumstances or actions that have their origins in criminal or terrorist initiated activity to not take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our associates. We are grateful to LSE. The guidance that Life Safety Engineering brings to the project is the most critical step; and far more challenging than it appears on the surface."

Emerging as a leader in commercial construction fire and smoke protection, Bank of America selected Life Safety Engineering /Fire Stop Inspector™ to ensure the safety of their associates for their billon dollar tower in Charlotte, North Carolina. This initiative has extended across the entire Bank of America Real Estate portfolio. Lincoln-Harris, the property management group has also recognized the valuable services of Life Safety Engineering LLC.

Who should take the lead role of life safety in new construction? Many times this duty can be assigned to the general contractor, as it involves cost management. However, there is an increased level of complex construction and compliance to any firm not recognized as a certified expert in the field.

In the last several years, studies have provided evidence of a strong linkage between the health of a building, its life safety drawings and structure. Bank of America is a major player in this effort based on the premise that "life safety drawings" and a coordinated improved plan concerning work-place safety create a legacy for extraordinary environmental benefits and loss-control dollars.

The importance of life safety for a building, occupants and mission critical contents involves the evolution of the planning, preparedness and the protection of all for improved safety.

"The healthier the buildings are, the better the result we will see in a comprehensive, sector-wide adaptation of sustainable practices and cost-reduction," states Cassisi.

Every single component of a building has a human health, environmental and social impact throughout the entire structure. Without proof that a standard has been met, claims such as life safety, environmental, organic, or non-toxic are difficult to define and easily misinterpreted.

Recently, The Today show on NBC in March announced, "Is it time to raise our safety standards in the U.S.? Bank of America is doing just that."
