Revolutionary Smart Health Technology Challenges Medical Curriculum

By: PRLog
SAN DIEGO - July 21, 2016 - PRLog -- Despite having the most advanced medical system in the world, the United States is the sickest its ever been, with nearly 70% of deaths and 75% of health care spending costs attributable to chronic health conditions. In choosing who to blame for the current disease epidemic, fingers often point at medical professionals. After all, most chronic disease is attributed to unhealthy lifestyle choices, which doctors are expected to teach their patients to reverse.

However, healthy lifestyle education is largely absent in medical training and hence isn't a part of most doctors' patient protocol. Any honest doctor will admit that while they're well versed in how to treat disease, they know little about how to create health. In fact, 88% of instructors at US medical schools report a need for additional nutrition instruction at their institutions.

We're now in a time where health and prevention are becoming a necessity, not a luxury. "If we have any chance of overcoming our current epidemic of chronic disease, we need to make sure that our doctors understand which foods best match an individual's biochemistry, which exercise type, frequency, and duration is best for them to undertake, which friends, family members, and work colleagues will create stress or pleasure, and which climates will cause physiological stress or relaxation," states pioneering health scientist and clinical educator Matt Riemann.

Progressive organizations such as the Cleveland Clinic and companies such as Kaiser Permanente are heeding the urgency and are providing innovative curricula and expanded care to address the current chronic illness crisis. Innovative companies are also rising to the challenge and developing solutions to help patients with their own lifestyle management.

"Eating right and leading a healthy lifestyle are notoriously difficult," states Riemann. "Fortunately, we have the technology available today to help each person navigate their own personal health from home as we continue to address medical curriculum issues at the local university and national and international government levels that will take us many more years to solve. Novel health technologies such as ph360 and Shae are already being used by health and medical professionals across the globe to help close the disparity gap between health promotion and disease management."

The future of medicine is already here and not waiting for medical education to catch up. "Based on your genetics and health parameters, the new health technology Shae can tell you when to drink more water, recommend the food you need for optimal health and energy, make recommendations on the best menu items for you to order at a restaurant, calculate the amount of calories you need to eat each day, and even tell you which exercises are best for your particular body," Riemann explained. "It's only a matter of time before doctor and patient are creating healthy lifestyle habits together."
