Uber hires Tesla mapping pioneer as it builds its team to take on Google

Thus far, Uber has largely relied on Google Maps for its drivers to use to navigate when getting riders to and from their destinations. But by building its own internal mapping team, it hopes to soon wean itself from that dependence.
