Production Description: Bullard: Fighting Under a Foreign Flag
Bullard was born in Columbus, Georgia in 1895, left home at the age of 12, arrived in Scotland at 15; he unloaded ships, took-up boxing and performed on stage. He was in France when war broke out in August 1914; he joined the French Foreign Legion that October. It was after injury as a foot soldier that he joined the French Air Service and entered into aerial combat as the first African American fighter pilot. He would survive WWI, and remain in the City of Lights to become a famous nightclub owner, who hosted international celebrities. He eventually returned to America when World War II began, settling down permanently in New York City until his death in 1961. The play runs approximately one hour and will include the most crucial events of Bullard's life from approximately eight years of age till his death.
