TechSpecs Uses Deep Augmented Reality and AI to Change the Way Users Shop for Electronics

Washington, D.C. - Consumer electronics have come a long way in recent years, but how we shop for those gadgets hasn’t changed much since the birth of eCommerce. Comparing tech specs online involves multiple searches across different platforms with no way to get a sense of the look and feel of the products. On June 8, 2020, however, the way we shop for electronics will radically change.

TechSpecs, a startup created by founder Ral Oz, will take comparison shopping for electronic gadgets to the next level. Using new technology based on Deep Augmented Reality (DAR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), TechSpecs will enable shoppers to interact with a virtual model of products they might want to buy.

How Does It Work?

TechSpecs.io will serve as a reliable, one-stop-shop for researching consumer electronics, simplifying and standardizing technical specifications so shoppers can discover new products and make informed buying decisions.

The platform will also include a directory of apps that run on TechSpecs (similar to the way Chrome extensions allow users to do more with their browser). The TechSpecs App Store will feature apps created by third-party developers along with TechSpec’s own in-house apps — including the Try app, which will change the way we shop for electronics.

Augmented Reality, popularized by Pokémon Go, uses the camera in a mobile device to project virtual images against a real-world background. In other words, instead of looking through a phone’s camera and seeing Pokémon’s Pikachu on the dining room table, the Try feature can show what the iPhone 11 looks like in someone’s hand. AI and DAR technology then allows them to interact with the 3D model of the device, bringing them one step closer to figuring out whether the product is right for them.

“This technology is a game-changer because people like to try out electronic devices before ordering them online,” says Oz. “Brick and mortar shops can only carry so much inventory. Our technology lets them experience a range of products before they buy.”

The TechSpecs platform is currently in pilot mode. In 2020, it will open the platform to consumers and developers worldwide.
