KINGMAN, AZ, October 05, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ambient Edge, an Arizona and Nevada air conditioning & heating repair company, has awarded its Students Affected by Cancer Scholarship to Kelly Mahon, 49, of 4-S-Ranch in San Diego County.

A student at Arizona State University, Ms. Mahon is on track to graduate this spring with a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics and a CASP degree (Community Advocacy and Social Policy) from the Watts School of Public Service and Community Solutions.

Many of us at Ambient Edge have been affected by cancer, whether ourselves, our loved ones, or our customers. The American Cancer Society estimates that, just in the United States, 1.8 million new cases will be diagnosed and 606,520 people will die from this disease in 2020. Cancer affects more than the patient, and that's why the scholarship is open to any student who has suffered alongside a loved one in the grip of the disease.

Ms. Mahon stood by her mother, who received a diagnosis of stage four breast cancer on Mother's Day, 2006.

Her essay described a dramatic arc from her rebellious teen years to dropping everything to support her mother. Ms. Mahon's life was just getting back on track. She began taking classes at California State University Long Beach. Then, her mother became ill and Ms. Mahon dropped out of school to help.

Two months after her mother's diagnosis, Ms. Mahon's father died unexpectedly. Those two tragedies were devastating.

Ambient Edge agrees with Ms. Mahon when she says, "I would just tell everybody, 'don't give up on yourself.' … Don't give up. Just take it day by day in small amounts and you can get through."
