The Al Rosete Memorial Scholarship has selected its very first recipient. In the first year of the Scholarship's founding, one outstanding high school senior was awarded a full scholarship, for four years, to the Ateneo de Manila University in Manila, Philippines. The first scholar of the Alfredo P. Rosete Memorial Scholarship is Trassandra Ipapo, a freshman majoring in Computer Science.

The scholar was selected for her academic achievements, an interest in pursuing a major in computer science, an aptitude for creativity, and a character of unwavering fortitude and perseverance. Founded by Al Rosete's daughter, Niña Rosete, the scholarship enables Filipino youth to continue their education on the collegiate level. The scholarship was founded as a way to commemorate Ms. Rosete's father. "I wanted to design a scholarship that reflected our Dad's interest in science, technology and the arts. It seemed appropriate to celebrate his life by starting a scholarship that recognized students who excelled in technology and showed an impressive level of creativity.  I truly believe that this combination is required to create the solutions we need for lasting change," says Ms. Rosete.

Applications were accepted from a pool of incoming freshmen to the Ateneo de Manila University. The school was selected for its long history of excellence in education and service to the community. "The Ateneo de Manila University is a Filipino, Jesuit and Catholic University that focuses on providing holistic education to students at all levels, and producing graduates dedicated to becoming servant-leaders, men and women for others. An Ateneo scholarship represents both intellectual advancement and the shaping of character, both inside and outside the classroom, first as a student, and later as a professional and possibly part of a family of one's own. Given these increasingly challenging financial times, a scholarship becomes doubly precious to whoever is fortunate enough to receive one. The ARMS is a generous opportunity for a hard-working and intelligent, but financially challenged individual, to receive this gift of an Ateneo education," says Dr. Jose Maria Edito K. Tirol, the University's Admissions Director.

The Rosete siblings are delighted to have chosen Ms. Ipapo. They believe that her interest in the field of technology, as well as her scope for imaginative thinking, will allow her to create solutions and solve problems. Upon receiving the scholarship, Trassandra said, "It was truly one of my happiest moments, feeling recognized for my efforts and assured that my dream to pursue a career in technology is still within my reach. I am deeply grateful for the trust, belief, and generosity given to me by the Rosete Siblings. Their kindness not only brings me closer to my goal but also inspires me to work hard in order to hopefully give back and leave an impact on the lives of others in the future as they did with me."
