Ecuador, a tiny country most known for the Galapagos Islands, has a rich music culture, with Otavalo, Afro-Ecuadorian, Marimba, and Bomba among its musical traditions. Pasillo, pasacalle, and yarabi are popular folk music styles- and then there's the evergrowing jazz scene.

This is where Santiago Lopez flourished. The expressive guitarist, who has opened for jazz icon Randy Brecker, fuses his Ecuadorian origins with latin flair while playing a variety of jazz, rock, blues, pop, and funk songs.

It was in 2013, when Santiago was acknowledged on a worldwide music stage as a result of a Berklee Scholarship awarded by the Ecuadorian government.

A year later, Santiago traveled to the United States to pursue a degree in Performance at the famed Berklee College of Music. During this period, he trained with notable artists including Jason Palmer, Bret Willmott, David Gilmore, and David Fiuczynski.

Lopez was overjoyed at the prospect of having furthered his education in Boston, MA. When questioned about his experience, he expressed his gratitude by saying
"As a young boy born in Quito, Ecuador, I never thought I would be living in Boston, MA working as a performance and session musician, teaching guitar and playing with a band. This has been an incredible journey, and I am truly grateful for experiencing every moment of it."

Fast forward to current situations- when asking Lopez how the pandemic affected his career living in Boston, Lopez said:
“Last year in the Fall after Covid struck, I started working for Pique Entertainment in performing at a handful of nursing homes in Massachusetts. I play for their residents. A lot of them have not been able to see their families or really even the outside world for a long time. It made my heart sing to perform for these people. It means a lot to me that they look forward to hearing my music, they’re smiling, they're happy and they sing and dance during my concerts. Through music, I can give them happiness and optimism in a very tough time in history. This really makes me feel good and that I am making a difference!"
