The Match for Peace is an interreligious sporting event that brings together the most prominent active soccer players and their legendary counterparts on the field of play. It is promoted by Pope Francis and its main objective is to send a message of peace and unity at key moments in mankind. Through Fair Play, and with the support of some of football’s greatest figures, this message is sent to the entire world.
Previous editions of the event held on September 1, 2014, and October 12, 2016, featured several star players and legends in attendance including Diego Maradona, Samuel Eto’o, Francesco Totti, Del Piero, Gianluiggi Buffon, Paolo Maldini, Andrea Pirlo, Diego Simeone, Javier Mascherano, Ronaldinho, Roberto Baggio, David Trezeguet, and much more. Musical performances were also held at halftime by prominent music artists and celebrities.
Another edition of the Match for Peace will take place for the benefit of the Scholas Occurrentes pontifical right foundation with support from H.H. Pope Francis. This year’s edition is scheduled to be held on November 14, 2022, at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, Italy. It will feature over 50 players, both active and retired, as well as a line-up of artists.
Ahead of the event, MoneyFi Technologies, a software factory company specialising in blockchain and crypto technologies has been appointed by the event organizers to be in charge of creating NFT collections for the event including participating players, the ticketing, and the video broadcast of the show. The sales of the NFT collection, as well as other income generated by the event, will help support the initiatives and mission of Scholas Occurrentes, and will offer NFT opportunities for collectors.
