Eyecare Specialties has announced the addition of John Gelvin, O.D., F.A.A.O., to their locations in Lee’s Summit, Warrensburg, and Belton. Dr. Gelvin brings with him over two decades worth of experience that allows him to treat patients with acute and chronic eye disease. His diverse training and unique skillset will help Eyecare Specialties offer their affordable, luxury care to a wider patient base.
“We’re thrilled to have a doctor as caring and talented as Dr. Gelvin joining our practice,” said Dr. Jason Lake, optometrist and CEO of Eyecare Specialties. “He has a truly impressive amount of experience, and his teaching background allows him to effectively walk patients through all aspects of their care. Dr. Gelvin completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry at Indiana University School of Optometry at Bloomington. Following his education, he completed his residency in Advanced Ophthalmic Disease at the W.W. Hastings Indian Hospital in Tahlequah, OK, and Vision Education Foundation at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Dr. Gelvin spent over twenty years as the Director of Christian Vision Eye Services to Haiti, where he served patients near Port-au-Prince and in their native language, Haitian Creole. Additionally, Dr. Gelvin has a long teaching background and has participated in numerous studies and drug trials, as well as having published his research in optometric journals. He is one of a select few members of the Optometric Glaucoma Society in the United States, and he stays active in the field by continuing to further his education to expand his knowledge and skills.

Dr. Gelvin specializes in glaucoma and emergency care and will be beginning at Eyecare Specialties’ Belton, Warrensburg, and Lee’s Summit locations in December. All Eyecare Specialties locations are open and taking appointments for new and continuing patients.
