MIAMI, FL / ACCESSWIRE / May 5, 2021 / Alastair Barnes, the noted painter and sculptor based out of Texas has announced he will be putting on a new Sculptor exhibit this December during Art Basel in Miami on Ocean Avenue.
Barnes the famous artist who is originally from South Africa, is regarded as one of the most versatile visual artists who has studios in both America & Africa. Alastair is equally in his element whether working on canvas or experimenting with a variety of sculpting methods. Throughout the decades, Barnes' paintings, sculptural pieces and installations have found their way into some of the most prestigious art shows and exhibitions all across the world. The artist has also held a number of solo exhibitions in South Africa, North America and elsewhere, attracting wide acclaim from many different quarters of the art world.
Alastair Barnes was born in East London, in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. He received his formal education at Selbourne College. From an early age, however, the future artist-to-be showed little interest in academics and was more interested in exploring the strikingly beautiful sun-bathed natural surroundings of East London. He would often wander off alone to the forests and hilly regions of the country. So, one won't be amiss to say that Barnes' real schooling took place in the very lap of nature itself.
This is aptly illustrated in the artists' works as well. Although he likes to portray a variety of subjects and emotions through his works, it is not difficult to see that the nature always serves as the primary source of inspiration for the artist. This is equally evident in his expressionist landscape paintings as also in his sculptural works a majority of which consists of portraits of a large variety of birds and animals.
However, despite his faithful rendering of details especially in his sculptural works, it must be remarked that the artist is not solely occupied in replicating his subjects in their objective avatars. On the contrary, he seems more intent in capturing the soul of his subjects. This is more clearly evident in his series of portrait sculptures of large birds and humans. It is especially in these works that Barnes' merit as a true artist with an original imagination and unique vision come to the fore. Careful observations of these works reveal that Barnes is actually striving to capture a mood or emotion unique to his subjects, and this often at the expense of naturalistic details.
The same is true of the very bests of his landscape paintings. While paintings from his mellower age already show signs of acute artistic sensitivity and unique imagination in the use of colors and bold brush strokes, Barnes really comes into his own in paintings of his later years. The latter exhibit the mature vision of an artist sure of himself and having full faith in his abilities and imagination.
