How To Make Good Use Of The Time At Home

As everyone's working environments change, it’s important to have a proper working space with a chair and desk, not only to maintain people's all-important posture but also to help organise their mind for better productivity and creativity.

With all of people being in self-isolation, they’re spending an unprecedented amount of time at home. As things look uncertain outside, Aosom wants to help people create the ideal space inside. Aosom has created a little guide to make sure that people are keeping healthy whilst getting the most of people's time at home.

As everyone's working environments change, it’s important to have a proper working space with a chair and desk, not only to maintain people's all-important posture but also to help organise their mind for better productivity and creativity.

Make sure the chair is ergonomic so it can adjust to the correct desk height, as well as support people's body as people work. They can raise people's legs up further by having an adjustable footrest which decreases the strain on people's lower back by supplying additional support.

Having a desk is essential and one with built-in storage will keep people's desk and mind neat and tidy. If they're short on space, flexible solutions like a 2-in-1 desk and bookshelf are also worth considering. The desk part of it simply folds out when people need it and seamlessly folds back into the bookshelf when not in use.

It’s best to place people's work area in an open space that has a lot of natural light. This will subconsciously open up their mind too for better productivity.

Spending entire day indoors will have an impact on people physical and mental health. They’re both just as important to maintain a healthy balance in both. Social distancing does not mean people have to disconnect completely. Stay connected. Pick up the phone to call the parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles to make sure they’re doing okay. Humans, are social creatures so every interaction, every sound of voice during these times will help a great deal.

Practise mindfulness activities such as meditation or yoga. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware and present in the moment, stepping away from the outside world and focusing on oneself. Apps such as ‘Headspace’ or ‘Calm’ make it easy to maintain a daily dose of meditation and peace of mind therapy.

The government encourages us to do exercise at least once a day by going for a run, cycle or walk. Exercise boosts the production of the ‘feel-good chemical’ endorphin in our brain, so not only are we physically fitter but mentally too.

The weather outside is improving so it’s a great opportunity to pick up some vitamin D and fresh air! For those who prefer to stay indoors, there are plenty of options to remain active. YouTube has an endless selection of indoor training videos – checkout PE with Joe who has been livestreaming everyday with millions of people! If people prefer the gym environment, they can still order home gym equipment to be delivered to home and work out from the comfort of own home.

HOMCOM offers a selection of space-saving cardio and resistance machines to keep people fit throughout this period. Aosom's personal favourite is this versatile aerobic stepper. People can even use it under the desk while people’re working to work out those restless legs!

As public parks are now closed, outdoor life doesn’t stop with being at home. Start building some outdoor time in daily routine by utilising garden/balcony. With modular rattan sets, people can make it work with own space!

An outdoor space to relax will give people fresh air, the sun’s rays and allow people to free oneself to feel less claustrophobic from being inside all day. A versatile space where people can work in the afternoon or socialise with the rest of people's household in the evening.

Connect more with the outdoors by growing own vegetables in very own garden. Planters are great for simple salad leaves and greenhouses are essential for protecting crop. Outsunny has a large selection of PVC ‘greenhouses’ which are durable and lay on top of existing flowerbed or flower pots.
